Moore Debuts New Songs At Sundance.

Filed under: Uncategorized — enews @ 1:49 pm

Pop star/actress Mandy Moore nervously debuted five songs at a private concert last Saturday (20Jan07) at the Sundance Film Festival.

The 22-year-old star has been writing the personal songs to work through her break-up with Scrubs star Zach Braff and subsequent battle with depression.

She tells American publication People, “I’m more nervous to actually have the material out there and to have people know that they are my words and my songs.

“I feel lucky to finally do the movies I want to do, and they’re my words and I’m proud of it, and you can sort of stand behind it with confidence and dive in headfirst.”

Moore insists she isn’t worried about people trying to analyse her lyrics for clues as to why she split with Braff saying, “I’m not really worried about it.

“People can infer what they want from the songs and that’s perfectly fine. I just know in a selfish way it was like therapy for me.

“Whatever was going on in my life, just to be able to get it down and turn a negative situation into something I felt a little more positive about at the end of the day, it’s cathartic.”

Foxx Wanted Fantasia For Dreamgirls Role

American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino desperately tried to win the role of Effie White in Dreamgirls and even had co-star Jamie Foxx backing her, before eventually losing out to Jennifer Hudson.

Foxx, who plays record boss Curtis Taylor in the film, was pushing for Barrino to land the role, but director Bill Condon had other ideas.

Hudson, who was also a contestant on American Idol, recently scored an Oscar nomination for the role, but Barrino insists she isn’t bitter about missing out on the star-making part.

She tells Vibe Vixen magazine, “Everyone wanted me for that role except the director. But it wasn’t for me. I tried really hard. But I can’t even be mad.

That role was for Jennifer Hudson.

“I feel like I was meant to win American Idol. And I feel like J (Jennifer Hudson) was meant to play the Effie role.”

Religious Group Blames The Da Vinci Code For ‘defamatory’ BBC Portrayal.

Religious Group Blames The Da Vinci Code For ‘defamatory’ BBC Portrayal…. Religious group Opus Dei has slammed the depiction of the controversial Catholic organisation in a new Bbc Tv drama series, blaming Dan Brown’s blockbuster novel The Da Vinci Code for inspiring the “defamatory” portrayal.

Opus Dei, which was formed in Madrid in 1928 by now canonised priest Josemaria Escriva De Balaguer, objects to two episodes of the British TV crime series Waking The Dead, screened in the UK on Saturday (20Jan07) and Sunday (21Jan07), which shows members of the religious organisation embroiled in a gruesome double murder.

The Da Vinci Code also portrayed the organisation in a negative light – as a power-hungry group determined to cover up the truth about Christ’s bloodline.

The organisation claims the episodes of Waking The Dead break the Bbc’s editorial guideline to “ensure the religious views and beliefs of an individual, a religion or religious denomination are not misrepresented.”

Their statement reads: “The three characters portrayed as members are self-serving hypocrites whose main reason for belonging to Opus Dei is depicted as being their wealth. This portrayal is lifted from The Da Vinci Code, a book and film which claimed – against all evidence – to be based on fact.”

A Bbc spokeswoman says the broadcaster has yet to receive an official complaint from Opus Dei.

Winslet Praises ‘More Mature’ Dicaprio

Kate Winslet is thrilled with the way co-star Leonardo DiCaprio has handled fame after Titanic became a worldwide sensation.

Both stars were in their early twenties when they were thrust into the international spotlight after the blockbuster’s release.

And Winslet is in delighted DiCaprio has become a “solid man” after initially struggling with being labelled a sex symbol.

She says, “He hasn’t done as many films as I have over the last ten years and it has really worked for him.

“He’s a very different person now. I’m so proud of him. He’s really a solid man, very compassionate. He does a lot for charities and the word charity probably didn’t mean much to him back then.

“The world, the issues, and the people who are suffering within the world, are very important to him. And he’s still giving great performances.”

My Chemical Romance Laugh Off Kasabian Criticism

My Chemical Romance Laugh Off Kasabian Criticism…. My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has branded Kasabian “ignorant”, after the British band recently slammed his records as “ventriloquists’ music”.

The Welcome To The Black Parade singer insists he was amused by Kasabian star Tom Meighan’s comments.

Meighan said, “It’s like ventriloquists’ music. It’s weird and dark. They don’t have anything positive to say. The only good news is that it won’t last.

These clowns won’t be around for much longer.

“Their make-up will flake off and the scene will die out. And it can’t happen soon enough.”

But Way hits back, “It was obviously meant as a slam, but it was so poorly worded that it ended up sounding like a compliment!. ‘Weird and dark’… that just makes them kind of ignorant.

“This band has never had a bulls**t war ever. I haven’t found an opponent worthy enough yet.

“If you’re gonna take me on, you’d better have the balls for it! If you’re gonna talk s**t about us, you’d better have the juice. And we haven’t found anybody with the juice yet.”

Elijah Wood was shocked when he was attacked by Jared Leto at an awards show recently (06), because The Lord Of The Rings star said he didn’t like Leto’s band.

The 26-year-old star was attending the Mtvu Woodie Awards in November when Leto, who is the lead singer of cult act 30 Seconds To Mars, approached his table.

Leto came over, whispered in Wood’s ear and walked away, but then turned around, grabbed him by the throat and called him a “f**king a**hole”.

Wood tells Jane magazine, “He was basically upset at the fact that I said I didn’t like his band. He said that initially and walked away.

“I guess he thought I was laughing at him, but I was more shell-shocked and telling people around me, ‘Whoa, I just got told off by Jared Leto for not liking his band.’ And that’s when he came back and grabbed me.”

He adds, “I told Jared it wasn’t personal. He acted like I’d been disrespecting him or speaking about his family.

“Things like that don’t usually happen to me. I’m very non-confrontational.

The whole thing was kind of ridiculous.”

Bedingfield’s American Dream Amusement

British pop star Natasha Bedingfield is amused at the lengths she went to in order to crack the US music charts – she even played in a contest winner’s backyard.

The singer was the first British female to get to number one in the US charts with Unwritten since Kim Wilde in the 1980s, and she puts her Stateside success down to her willingness to start all over again.

She tells Cosmopolitan magazine, “I knew that in order to make it in America, I had to be willing to start over. You have to take a step down to take a step up and not many singers are prepared to do that.

“It was a humbling experience. I sang anywhere and everywhere.

“Once there was a ‘Bedingfield Barbeque’, where someone won the chance to have me sing at their house. I didn’t really know anything about it until I got to the winner’s house and smelt the sausages cooking. There was no microphone, nothing. I just sang in this family’s back yard.”

Cohen’s High School Crush On Spears…. Britney Spears boyfriend Isaac Cohen has had a longterm crush on the pop star – he even nicknamed his high school sweetheart “Britney” in honour of the singer.

Cohen’s high school girlfriend, Jennifer Sypal, tells American publication Us Weekly that he used to call her Britney because she so closely resembled the Toxic singer.

She explains, “He thought she was hot. He was into her music, too.”

Sypal, 24, dated Cohen on and off in 1999 and 2000 after meeting him at summer school. She was even his date to his prom in 2000.

Wu-tang Clan Confirm New Album

Wu-tang Clan Confirm New Album…. Hip-hop collective WU-Tang Clan are working on their first album since the death of founder member OL’ Dirty Bastard in 2004.

The Gravel Pit group – featuring Rza, Gza, Method Man, Raekwon The Chef, Ghostface Killa, Inspektah Deck, Masta Killa and U-God – have reteamed with former Loud Records owner Steve Rifkind for 8 Diagrams.

Rza tells, “It’s like when we first started with Steve. We put out real hip-hop at a time when it was turning into pop or R&B. We brought the focus back to the music in its rawest form, without studio polish or radio hooks.

“People want something that gives them an adrenaline rush. We’re here to supply that fix. How could hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever? We’re here to revive the spirit and the economics and bring in a wave of energy that has lately dissipated.”

8 Diagrams is set to be released this summer (07) and will feature a previously unreleased performance by Ol’ Dirty Bastard and a tribute to the rapper from his former bandmates.

Brandy Involved in Fatal Traffic Crash

Filed under: Uncategorized — enews @ 1:46 pm

R&B singer Brandy was involved in a four-car freeway crash last month that left a 38-year-old woman dead, authorities said Wednesday.

The cause of the mishap was under investigation, and no arrests have been made.

The 27-year-old actress-singer (full name: Brandy Norwood) was driving a 2007 Land Rover on the 405 Freeway on Dec. 30, when the collision occurred.

She failed to slow down and struck the back of a 2005 Honda at about 65 mph, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

The Honda driven by Awatef Aboudihaj, 38, hit another vehicle and then slid sideways before it struck a center divider, the report said.

Aboudihaj’s car was then hit by an oncoming car driven by 50-year-old Mallory Ham, the report said.

Aboudihaj was taken to a hospital, where she died of blunt-force injuries, said county coroner’s spokesman Craig Harvey. The coroner’s office ruled her death an accident.

Ham also was taken to a hospital where she was treated for moderate injuries.

Brandy was not injured, and she wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash, said her publicist Courtney Barnes.

“She wishes to publicly express her condolences to the family of the deceased,” Barnes said.

A message left for a CHP spokesman was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Norwood, whose hits include “Sittin’ Up in My Room” and “The Boy Is Mine,” has made five albums and earned a Grammy in 1999. She began her recording career at 14 and acted in film and TV shows, starring on the sitcom “Moesha” from 1996 to 2001 and most recently as a judge for NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”
